Bhaanika is a solo theatrical presentation that deals with the emotions of a woman. The spectrum of emotions - desire, craving, hope, excitement, joy, embarrassment, disappointment, anger and sorrow – are all embodied in the Indian concept of the Ashtanaayikaa. The theme of Ashtanaayikaa delineates the emotions of a woman with respect to her beloved. Although these emotions are portrayed through a common woman, it can be extended to women across all strata of the society as they are experienced by all. Even though it is portrayed through an Indian woman, the theme is not limited to this scenario. The story is communicated with precision by employing multiple genres of music ranging from classical, folk to functional sounds.
The richness of the performance is in its universal appeal to all sections of the society and emphasizes on human emotions - one of the few things that has remained unchanged over millennia. As long as our emotions are relevant to us, so will Bhaanika's appeal to the connoisseurs.
